Nature in music
The "Encounter" Festival will be held in Salzburg for the ninth time in May 2008. Entitled "Nature,“ this year's encounter will include works by Vivaldi, Schumann, Respighi and Beethoven. Leonidas Kavakos has been the Camerata Salzburg's artistic director since August 2007.
Kavakos will add a new dimension to the overall repertoire and program composition. The "Encounter" Festival, founded by Sándor Végh, offers orchestral works, chamber music and solo compositions. The opening concert on May 16 will include Honegger's Pastoral d’été pour petite orchestre, Beethoven's Tempest sonata, Op. 31 no. 2 (with Dénes Várjon) and Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony, Op. 68. The second concert on May 17 will have Respighi's Gli ucelli, his Poema autunnale and Vivaldi's The Four Seasons (with Benjamin Schmid as the soloist) on the program.
