2006 UCI Road Cycling World Championship in Salzburg
Big events are known to cast their shadows before them. Preparations for the sports highlight of the coming year, the 2006 UCI Road Cycling World Championship, are already underway in Salzburg. The UCI Road Cycling World Championship will be staged from September 19 to 24, 2006 in and around the city of Salzburg. Everyone's attention will focus on the cycling sport for six consecutive days. Cycling fans from around the world will travel to Salzburg to see the spectacular competition live. Based on the statistics from previous world championships, the following superlative figures are expected: 1000 athletes and just as many assistants from 58 nations, 5000 accredited persons, some 1200 delegates and officials as well as 1800 international journalists. 55 TV stations will broadcast live from Salzburg, reaching an audience of 400 to 600 million. Some 70,000 visitors are expected during the week of the race, plus an estimated 250,000 spectators at the main race on Sunday. Visitors are recommended to book their accommodations well ahead of time.
