Nowhere else are the New Year's celebrations as buoyant as in Salzburg. Classical music will drift across the squares of the Old City on January 1. Two hours of music featuring excerpts from the previous evening's New Year's concerts at the Large Festival Hall will begin at 5:05 p.m. The Mozarteum Orchestra, conducted by Arvid Engegard, will perform three Slavic dances by Antonìn Dvorák and the Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 by Edvard Grieg during the first half of the program. The second half will feature popular works by Johann Strauss such as the "Helenen Polka“ and "Tales from the Vienna Woods “.
