Salzburg's Avant-garde Advent in 2007

Is it possible to see Christmas traditions from an unconventional perspective? It is. And has been demonstrated by Salzburg Advent Singing Avant-garde again and again.

Extraordinary musicians will present extraordinary music with a great deal of sensitivity and a wink of the eye once more this year. Five musicians from different cultural backgrounds, each representing their own music universe: Krzysztof Dobrek (Poland, accordion), Aliosha Biz (Russia, violin), Marwan Abado (Lebanon, oud and vocals), Roland Neuwirth (Vienna, counter guitar and vocals) and Alegre Corrêa (Brazil, guitar, percussion and vocals). What appears to be a crazy conglomeration turns out to be wonderfully harmonious in concert: a tango suddenly coalesces with Schrammel music, a Gstanzl (comic verses) with blues and Jewish and Arabian melismas with stirring chants. Joined by the singer, Doris Windhager, the musicians have put together an exclusive program for the 2007 Salzburg Advent Singing Avant-garde.
