2006 art project in Salzburg

James Turrell, "SKYSPACE," 2006 - Salzburg Foundation

The American artist, James Turrell, internationally renowned for his light installations, created a "SKYSPACE“ on the Mönchsberg for the city of Salzburg. His work is a walk-in room shaped like an elliptic cylinder with benches along the edge for visitors to sit to view the sky through an opening in the roof. The artist uses the light and space from the visible part of the sky as his primary mediums.
