Mozart's city is a mecca for cyclists
A tour of the city by bike? Why not? Nothing could be easier in Salzburg. Mozart's city was an insider tip for innovative sightseeing long before it hosted the successful UCI Road Cycling World Championship in 2006.
See Salzburg from a completely new perspective: the bicycle is an ideal way for adults or families to explore UNESCO's baroque World Heritage Site close up and stress-free.
The cycle path in Mozart's city stretches over a length of more than 160 kilometers with 13 signposted bicycle routes and 5,500 parking spaces. Three public self-service stations for bicycles offer free tools, bike stands, lubricating oil and compressed air for emergencies. The bicycle network encompasses the entire city; contra-flow cycling is possible in 83 one-way streets.
Separate bicycle lanes are available along countless roads; special underpasses for cyclists on both sides of the Salzach ensure that cyclists do not need to cross bridges and main roads. A bicycle garage for 350 bicycles (incl. 130 lockable bike boxes) is located at the local railway station (Südtiroler Platz). A number of bicycle-friendly hotels in all categories offer the complimentary use of their bicycles or inexpensive rental bikes.
Cyclists can ride along either side of the Salzach for kilometers or through the Hellbrunn avenue, closed to motor traffic, to Hellbrunn Palace with its famous trick fountains and adjacent zoo. Several bicycle routes lead into the immediate and distant environs. The Tauern Bike Path (175 kilometers) leads from Oberndorf along the Salzach to Hallein, Golling or Krimml; the Mozart Bike Path is 450 kilometers long and winds through the province of Salzburg and Bavaria. The Salzkammergut Bike Path offers picturesque views of 13 lakes over a distance of 345 kilometers.
The Salzburg Card is ideal for your stay in Salzburg: it offers free single admission to all of the city's attractions, free use of public transport (incl. the fortress funicular, ship service and Untersberg cable car), attractive discounts for various cultural events and reductions at many excursion destinations.
The 24, 48 or 72-hour Salzburg Card is available from € 21.00 at all Salzburg Information Offices, hotel receptions, at ticket offices and at the kiosk at Salzburg Airport.
Now all you need is the right hotel: two attractive "Salzburg Card Hotel Packages" are ideal for your city trip:
