Official opening of the Jacob's Path in Salzburg

An old pilgrim tradition is currently being revived in Europe. Pilgrim paths – such as the Jacob's Path – were reconstructed by scientific research. The Austrian Jacob's Path is 803 kilometers long and follows two significant routes. One follows the course of the Danube, the other leads into the mountainous regions on the northern edge of the Alps, where it also crosses into the Bavarian/Salzburg frontier. It reaches the province's capital after crossing Salzburg's lake district.

Route in the city of Salzburg:
From the Maria Plain motorway bridge down to the Salzach River – along the right banks of the river to the Mülln Bridge – across the river – on to Makart Bridge –through the Old City to the Cathedral – through St. Peter's Cemetery, past the Festival Halls and through the Neutor - to Maxglan – along the Glan – to the next St. Jacob's Church in Gois

Pilgrim lodgings in the city of Salzburg:
Haus Wartenberg
Pension Christkönig
Hotel St.Virgil
Hotel Hohenstauffen

Tourismus Salzburg GmbH and the Salzburg Archdiocese will set up uniform signs along Salzburg's "Jakobsweg". Jacob's Path will be marked by the pilgrim scallop on yellow/blue signboards.
