In 1991 the violinist, Lavard Skou-Larsen decided to form an ensemble with a handful of outstanding musicians. Their goal was to perform orchestral chamber music with the liberty of a soloist. After searching for members in Austria, Europe and on every other continent, Skou-Larsen succeeded in finding a group of determined instrumentalists. Their idol was the unforgotten Sandor Vegh, whose charisma had a decisive influence on many of the group's members.
During their first year the orchestra toured the United States and Canada. It met with great success and was soon invited to appear at a variety of concert venues and with a number of famous soloists including Boris Belkin, Mischa Maisky, Michel Dalberto, Rodolfo Bonucci, Jean-Bernard Pommier and Alexander Lonquich.
The orchestra's outstanding reviews caused it to travel to South America (where it was acclaimed as the "best foreign orchestra of the year at the Téatro Colon in Argentina), to many European festivals and to the Near East.
