Not everyone likes to sit in the theater in formal but often uncomfortable attire; eating and drinking during the performance is not exactly the thing to do and the evening is spent in enclosed rooms with the only cool air coming from an air conditioner. The opposite can be experienced by visiting the Siemens Festival Nights at 9:00 p.m. on Residence Square when dusk sets in. Old and new Salzburg Festival opera and theater productions will be projected on a large screen.
Admission to the performances is free, visitors are free to come and go at any time and food and beverages are available at the booths set up around the spectator stands. Festival performances in a superior audio-visual quality can be enjoyed under the stars between July 25 and August 15. This year's highlight will include a recording of the current Everyman production, presumably on August 13, Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito (last year's production) on July 25 and this year's Rosenkavalier on August 6 (subject to change without notice).
But the musical program will start much earlier, i.e. at 7:30 p.m. Classical music in the Old City is an Austrian Broadcasting Company initiative: some of the finest Festival recordings from the ORF archives can be heard each day. Those who secure a good seat on the spectator stands will certainly not be bored with the music.
Festival Nights and Classical Music in the Old City July 25 – August 15 from 7:30 or later (after the end of the Everyman performance): Classical Music in the Old City from 9:00 p.m.: Festival nights
A brochure containing the detailed program for both events will be issued prior to the Festival opening.
