What’s special about each area ? Monday, usually Obertauern, hidden in the high Alps, or when road and weather conditions dictate, then Zauchensee, a beautiful ski area around a lake. Tuesday, Gastein, the area is famous for its hot spring spa and its skiing. Wednesday, Kitzbuhel, one of the most famous ski-resorts of the world. Thursday, Schladming, on the south side of the Dachstein massif, great views, lots of skiing and a World Cup race course. Friday, Flachau, ski the Flachau mountain, home to the skier Herman Maier; or ski across to Alpendorf and back. Saturday, Leogang-Saalbaach-Hinterglemm, we park at Leogang to enjoy the “Ski Circus”, a huge ski area with a great choice of slopes. The day is never long enough. Sunday, Zell-am-See, a famous lakeside holiday town with lots of skiing.
Which day for which sport? Each day is suitable for each level of ski and snowboard. Cross-country ski is possible every day, but less detailed information is available.
For other activities we do offer the following advice: Toboggan / Sledge / Luge / Treneo - to walk up and slide down can be fun and is possible every day, but for the more dedicated there are special facilities at Kitzbuhel (Wednesdays) and Schladming (Thursdays). Sleigh rides - are a great way to experience the winter scenery, best booked in advance. Even one day in advance can help secure the booking. Sleigh ride price typically 70 Euro for a sleigh ride for up to 7 guests. Swimming - is available on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. From these, Tuesday at Bad Hof Gastein has the best and most convenient facilities, with sauna and massage too.
Why stay in Salzburg ? Stay in Salzburg City to enjoy the best choice of hotels and restaurants, not forgetting the museums, music and shops. Are you the kind of person that on vacation gets up early to be the first skier on the slopes? To ski all day and finish as late as possible? Even in bad weather? Then you should consider staying in a ski village. Otherwise you may prefer to stay in Salzburg. Most people find our skiing day quite long enough, and there’s the opportunity to enjoy the city. Another big advantage: Unlike most other ski areas, you don't need to book for a whole week - in Salzburg you are just as welcome if you stay only for the weekend.
Extra costs: Salzburg Snow Shuttle - what extras could there be ? All prices given are guidelines not fixed prices. Although some businesses accept credit cards, many in the mountains do not. Please be sure to have enough cash available. In addition to your voucher or ticket to ride with the Snow Shuttle, some additional costs may include the following:
Lift tickets in cash : Adults € 35,00; 16,17 & 18 year olds € 32,00; 6 to 15 years € 18,00; up to 6 years for free. Evidence of age is required for the reduced prices. In Austrian ski areas there are no reduced prices for the “over-age” skiers. Sports equipment, Ski & Snowboard Rental: each destination has a sports shop available. Skis and boots or snowboard and boots the prices do vary from area to area. An advanced skier needs stiffer stronger more stable equipment to grip better on steeper icier snow. Advanced equipment costs more to rent. Children’s equipment and cross-country ski equipment are usually somewhat cheaper. Beginner € 20,00 to € 30,00; Medium € 20,00 to € 35,00; Advanced € 25,00 to € 40,00. Want to buy equipment, Austrian skis etc: most shops have test equipment available. Ski wear is available to buy, but rental is limited. Rental for more days: Ski or Snowboard rental for just 1, 2, 3 or 4 days has to be day by day. However, for 5 or more days, a deal with the sports shop can be arranged to avoid renting skis on a daily basis.
If you have your own skis or snowboard you are welcome to leave them on the bus overnight. Boots we recommend taking back to your hotel to dry. Frozen boots are not a good start to the day!
Coming alone ? Although there is no guarantee, there is a good chance of finding someone to ski with on our bus. Alternatively book a ski guide for the day – guide, instructor and companion all in one.
