An extraordinary tour of the city will be available to Salzburg visitors starting June 20, 2007. W.A. Mozart and Archbishop Wolf Dietrich – featuring the voices of Peter Simonischek and Michael Dangl – will accompany tourists on a tour of Salzburg via a pocket-size computer. The so-called iGuide, offering interesting facts and personal anecdotes about Mozart and Wolf Dietrich, are a very special way to tour Salzburg.
"Dear visitors, to the left of this cheeky musician you can see the first building I had built in Salzburg - the New Residence," explains Wolf Dietrich. W.A. Mozart interjects, "Well, I’m not that impressed by your New Residence. It looks more like a hospital to me!"
Mozart frequently fails to show the necessary respect for the archbishop, leading to delightful arguments that will catch listeners smiling on their tour of the city. Both men have a cache of Salzburg stories on hand. Mozart, for example, rattles on about how the Archbishop put his talent to the test and about the baker's daughter who was madly in love with him. Childhood memories come alive in front of Mozart's Birthplace, he describes his love of "Bölzlschiessen" (target practice) in front of the Mozart Residence. Wolf Dietrich, however, is more concerned with the city planning, the architecture and the city's moving past. Of course his love for Salome Alt is brought up as well as his animosity for the Bavarian Duke and his final years as a prisoner at the Fortress.
But the two companions agree on one thing: they are both intent on giving the listener detailed insight into the city. Mozart and Wolf Dietrich cause the carillon to sound, the Salzburg Bull organ to play and songs from "The Sound of Music“ to be heard on their tour.
The two virtual companions will join Salzburg visitors renting the iGuide at the Salzburg Information Office at Mozartplatz 5 on a tour of the city's attractions. A screen shows visitors historical photos as well as a look at attractions not included on the tour, e.g. Hellbrunn Palace. Sounds and images let the city come alive and can also be listened to sitting on a bench in the sun or in a café. The informative and entertaining tour of the city has 30 stations and takes 90 minutes. It is also available in English and Italian.
Popular actors lent their voices to W.A. Mozart and Wolf Dietrich von Raintenau. Peter Simonischek, starring in Everyman, plays the Archbishop, Michael Dangl, member of the Josefstadt Ensemble with Salzburg roots, slips into the role of Mozart.
The cost of the audio-visual tour is € 7.50 for up to 2 hours / € 8.50 for up to 4 hours / € 12.50 for up to 8 hours or overnight. A second set of earphones is available for € 2.00, a photo ID is provided as a security deposit.
