Aesthetics with a noble zeitgeist

Salzburg's Old City is considered to be one of the world's loveliest shopping centers, combining the romantic character of the baroque World Heritage Site with a wide range of historic and increasingly modern and trendy shops - all having an exceptionally personal flair.

The baroque city center, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO ten years ago, has a host of tiny shops with distinctive offerings tucked away in its narrow streets and romantic “passages" (walk-through courtyards), many of them family businesses handing down the craft of making liqueurs, umbrellas or custom tailored garments for generations. Delicatessen shops, bakeries and pastry shops also offer their tempting ware.

They are interspersed by shops offering the latest trends and exclusive gifts, e.g. "Donum“ in Sigmund Haffner Gasse, where two floors offer exclusive designer fashions by Jean Paul Gaultier, Issey Miyake, Irene van Ryb or Anna Fuchs, functional designer items for home and garden, accessories, purses and exclusive jewelry. A colorful array of aesthetic interior decorations (vases, dishes, candles, platters, exclusive room sprays) convey a personal, modern outlook on life. Erika Swarovski's line of products are known for their superior workmanship and functionality; they are distinguished by exquisite materials, distinct line and a touch of the exotic.

A blend of traditional, exquisite craftsmanship and innovative design is the Gössl family's trademark. The manufacturers of "Trachten" haute couture has turned the former St. Rupert's palace along the romantic Hellbrunn Avenue into its new domicile. The "Gwandhaus“, meeting point for those valuing tradition and quality, offers visitors an interesting mixture of adventure, shopping, museum, dining and events. The family business dates back to 1947, initially focusing on the production of blouses. Today the line of products includes festive "Dirndls" and "Trachten" made of high-quality fabrics, elegant "Trachten" suits, traditional leisure and children's apparel, exquisite wedding attire and accessories such as shawls, silk scarves and handbags.

Creative rose arrangements and exquisite couture

Stopping at the next shop around the corner will take you to a world of heavenly scents. "Gerhard Swarovski Rosentury“ focuses on the fragrance of roses, transforming the flowers into creative arrangements that are freeze-dried to turn them into lasting decorations. The imaginative rose arrangements, candles and delicate rose room sprays are a perfect gift idea.

Exquisite fashions for the most discriminating ladies can be found a few steps further at "Cobra Couture“. Under a historic vaulted ceiling, Katharina Kaesbach presents her collection of classic, elegant, trendy and avant-garde apparel, produced by local seamstresses with an extraordinary love of detail. Customers can choose the fabrics themselves assisted by professional advice on the ideal style and color.

Exceptionally creative and colorful but also refined: "Heidi’s“ on University Square is the right address for custom hats in all shapes and colors, exclusive necklaces, trendy bracelets, hand-bags and other accessories – personally designed by Heidi for those looking to attract attention.

Anyone looking for exclusive couture by international designers will find just what they're looking for in the Old City's intricate alleys: boutiques by Louis Vuitton, Escada, Hugo Boss, Lacoste, Laurèl, Stefanel, Marc O’Polo or Max Mara. The Hermès boutique on Alter Markt managed by Resmann Couture is the leading address for fashions and lifestyle from Paris, offering men's and ladies' fashions as well as ties, silk scarves, leather goods, jewelry, watches, blankets, towels and table linen.

Deluxe writing instruments can be found around the corner at "Mont Blanc“. A limited edition of hand-crafted fountain pens, dedicated to historic personalities in recognition of their extraordinary contributions to art and culture, is the current program's absolute highlight.

Exclusive design for children

Upscale children's "trachten" fashions are a dominant theme at "Lanz“: just like the adult versions, children's fashions are marked by their first-class quality and superb workmanship. Founded as a sports shop by the two mountaineering comrades, Josef Lanz and Fritz Mahler, during the 1920s, the enterprise soon established itself as an international address for exclusive trachten fashions. These rural garments soon became "city fashionable“. The Lanz style asserted itself throughout the world after the Second World War. Elegant trachten with propensity for the avant-garde can also be found at "Stassny“, not just for men and women but also for children.

Soft, easy-care fabrics in a colorful, fresh design and original accessories describe the exclusive fashions for children at "Gartner Salzburg Junior“. The fashion designer and garment maker, Sylvie Gartner, attaches great importance to a blend of modern zeitgeist and traditional craftsmanship in her children's collection.

Sigrid Wurzinger's infant and children's collection, produced in her own shop, is unconventional, individual and colorful. "Klexx" in the AVA-Hof (Hanuschplatz) offers a large selection of children's toys for all ages as well as stationery and school supplies designed to make every child happy.
