Welcome to Salzburg! It’s a small city steeped in culture and history, surrounded by mountains. If you’d like to visit in the winter, we’d like to show you the mountains with the Salzburg Snow Shuttle.

In addition to the countless cultural highlights of museums, concerts and fine dining, winter sports are awaiting you too. A daily shuttle service is your connection to an exciting mountain experience in the most beautiful and popular skiing regions in the Salzburg area. Accompanied by the multilingual Snow Shuttle guide, who not only arranges the lift tickets , helps with ski rental and ski school, but also has some detailed information to help with special requests, nothing will stand in the way of a perfect winter holiday.
"Salzburg Snow Shuttle" operates daily from December 22, 2007 to March 25, 2008, departing at 08:30 from Mirabell Square in the city center, on the east side of the Salzach river. Driving time 60 to 100 minutes. The bus departs from the Ski area every day at 16:00, so back in Mirabell Square soon after 17:00 The following regions are serviced (depending on the snow conditions): Obertauern or Zauchensee, Gastein, Kitzbuhel, Schladming, Flachau, Leogang - Saalbach - Hinterglemm, Zell-am-See or Kitzsteinhorn. Alternatives to skiing and snowboarding are available upon request such as tobogganing & sleigh rides, swimming & skating, cross country ski or simply a leisurely walk through the picturesque landscape.

Which day for which sport?
Each day is suitable for each level of ski and snowboard.
Cross-country ski is possible every day, but less detailed information is available.

For other activities we do offer the following advice:
Toboggan / Sledge / Luge / Treneo - to walk up and slide down can be fun and is possible every day, but for the more dedicated there are special facilities at Kitzbuhel (Wednesdays) and Schladming (Thursdays).
Sleigh rides - are a great way to experience the winter scenery, best booked in advance. Even one day in advance can help secure the booking. Sleigh ride price typically 70 Euro for a sleigh ride for up to 7 guests. Available at all destinations, but may need some connecting transport.
Walking - good at all destinations
Swimming - is available on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. From these, Tuesday at Bad Hof Gastein has the best and most convenient facilities, with sauna and massage too. Swim, sauna & massage are also available in downtown Salzburg at the Paracelsus Health Spa.
Ice-Skating is possible on Sunday and Wednesday, but much more convenient on Sundays. Aside from Snowshuttle, in Salzburg City, ice-skating is available in the Mozart Square and at the Volksgarten Salzburg (tel: 0662 623 411-15)
Skidoo/Snowmobile is not available at the destinations visited by Snow Shuttle.

Why Salzburg?
Why stay in Salzburg ? Stay in Salzburg City to enjoy the best choice of hotels and restaurants, not forgetting the museums, music and shops. Are you the kind of person that on vacation gets up early to be the first skier on the slopes? To ski all day and finish as late as possible? Even in bad weather? Then you should consider staying in a ski village. Otherwise you may prefer to stay in Salzburg. Most people find our skiing day quite long enough, and there’s the opportunity to enjoy the city. Another big advantage: Unlike most other ski areas, you don't need to book for a whole week - in Salzburg you are just as welcome if you stay only for the weekend.

Ski Guides, Instructors & Ski School
As a beginner, or wanting to improve, tuition is recommended.
To really enjoy the resort a guide would help you to make the most of your time
If a guide or instructor is needed, it is best to book in advance.
We need to know which sport, for what level, which language and many hours for how many people; e.g.
2 adults for snowboarding, beginners, English, full day.
Most schools charge € 60 to € 70 per hour, minimum 2 hours.

Extra Costs
Salzburg Snow Shuttle - what extras could there be? All prices given are guidelines not fixed prices. Although some businesses accept credit cards, many in the mountains do not. Please be sure to have enough cash available. In addition to your voucher or ticket to ride with the Snow Shuttle, some additional costs may include the following:
Lift tickets in cash: Adults € 40,00; 16,17 & 18 year olds € 36,00; 6 to 15 years € 20,00; up to 6 years for free. Evidence of age is required for the reduced prices. In Austrian ski areas there are no reduced prices for the “over-age” skiers.
Sports equipment, Ski & Snowboard Rental: each destination has a sports shop available.
Skis and boots or snowboard and boots the prices do vary from area to area. An advanced skier needs stiffer stronger more stable equipment to grip better on steeper icier snow. Advanced equipment costs more to rent. Children’s equipment and cross-country ski equipment are usually somewhat cheaper. Beginner € 20,00 to € 30,00; Medium € 20,00 to € 35,00; Advanced € 25,00 to € 40,00. Want to buy equipment, Austrian skis etc: most shops have test equipment available. Ski wear is available to buy, but rental is limited.
Rental for more days: Ski or Snowboard rental for just 1, 2, 3 or 4 days has to be day by day. However, for 5 or more days, a deal with the sports shop can be arranged through your Snow Shuttle guide to avoid renting skis on a daily basis.

Practicalities
If you have your own skis or snowboard you are welcome to leave them on the bus overnight. Boots we recommend taking back to your hotel to dry. Frozen boots are not a good start to the day!

Travelling Alone?
Are you coming alone ? Although there is no guarantee, there is a good chance of finding someone to ski with on our bus. Alternatively book a ski guide for the day – guide, instructor and companion all in one.

Child Care
It depends on the age and ability of the child, and how much the parent wants to pay, but should be booked in advance.A ski instructor makes a very expensive baby-sitter but can teach skiing(€50/hr). But a small child may find 1 hour skiing enough. With advance warning we can arrange a  baby-sitter for the day (€100/day) either to come on SSS or to stay in the city.
