Traveling was more of an adventure than a pleasant experience during the 18th century. It usually involved poor accommodations, drunk coachmen, bandits and illnesses. Danger lurked everywhere. Despite the discomforts, the Mozart family gave in to the adventure of traveling.
A number of letters to their friends in Salzburg document what the Mozart family experienced on their journeys. They vividly describe their impressions of life in the big cities such as Paris, London and Rome, offering their Salzburg friends insight into the wide world.
The large number of exhibits from the International Mozarteum Foundation's collection were supplemented by precious loan items from the Salzburg Museum. They offer interesting insight in topics important to the Mozart family in everyday life.
