Cafés in Salzburg

 Start
The Café – The Artists’ Living Room

Café Tomaselli: Alter Markt 9. The oldest café in the city and the longest serving café still in existence in Austria, under the ownership of the Tomaselli Family since 1852. In 1859/60 the kiosk area was added to Café Tomaselli, still affording the shade of several trees today.

Café Bazar: Schwarzstrasse 3, next to the Staatsbrücke. Café Bazar was opened in 1909. Whereas Café Tomaselli is mostly frequented by musicians, Café Bazar has always been a meeting place for actors, due to its proximity to the Landestheater, Kammerspiele and Marionettentheater. Especially during the time of the Festival after rehearsals, actors enjoy visiting the shady terrace looking out onto the old part of town. On the first floor at the Bazar there’s the Salzburg Bridge Club.

Café FürstBrodgasse 13. The Creator of the "Salzburg Mozartkugeln". The Salzburg pastry chef, Paul Fürst, invented the "Salzburger Mozartkugel" in 1890. Norbert Fürst, the current owner of the confectionary shop and Paul Fürst’s great grandson, is still producing these, in the meantime world famous, special treats using the same recipe and process as back then, to manufacture the "Original Salzburger Mozartkugeln". There’s now a small museum at the shop at Brodgasse 13 to celebrate the history of this internationally renowned product.

Café Demel: Mozartplatz 2. This traditional café opened in 2006 in the same building, where the Café Glockenspiel was located before and where the world famous poet Georg Trakl spent his childhood.

The MozART ' s Espresso   Gourmet is located in the building of the Neue Residenz (Mozartplatz 1), which will also host the new museum Salzburg Museum Neue Residenz (opening June 2007).
