A visit to Salzburg, Mozart's City, will become even more interesting if you take a guided tour. Since the major attractions are located in the pedestrian zone, you'll discover the charm and beauty of the city on foot together with your Salzburg guide. The tour will take approximately two hours. It includes a visit to the Cathedral district, St. Peter's district and the Getreidegasse with Mozart's birthplace.
Bus excursions
- Hellbrunn Palace (approx. 6 km outside of Salzburg; closed from November to the end of March)
Leave from the city center, pass through Salzburg's lovely districts to Hellbrunn: visit the Mannerist, early baroque pleasure palace built by Santino Solari (1612-1615) under Prince Archbishop Markus Sittikus in the center of a baroque ornamental garden and the world-famous trick fountains with its mechanical theater dating back to 1750. Length: two hours, three with a coffee break at Schlossrestaurant Hellbrunn
- Salzburg's Open Air Museum (approx. 14 km outside of Salzburg; closed from November to mid-March)
Leave from the city center to the natural park at the foot of the Untersberg: visit the Open Air Museum, whose grounds encompass 50 hectares on which over 50 different original farmhouses from every corner of the Salzburg Province have been restored, providing insight into the farmers' cultural and economic history and the diverse architecture of the houses and farms. The "Salettl" has been adapted as a restaurant and serves lunch, snacks and coffee/cake (but no dinners). Length: approx. three hours, four with a coffee break at the "Salettl"
- Hohenwerfen Fortress (approx. 36 km outside of Salzburg; closed from November to the end of March)
Leave from the city center, taking the motorway to Werfen. The former fortification dating back to the 11th century towers over the Salzach Valley. It not only served the archbishops who owned it as a military stronghold but occasionally as a residence and hunting manor. Castle tours are available with an arms exhibition as well as the province's historical falcon house with flight shows at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day. The "Burgschenke" or castle tavern has a variety of refreshments but will also organize lunches or dinners. Length: four to five hours or a little longer if you stop for coffee, lunch or dinner.
All of these excursions can, for example, be offered as a full-day program including a tour of the city and lunch.
